Who We Are
Manor United Methodist Church was first organized in a school house in 1854. It then moved to the Parson Seminary, located on what is now the old high school, where they continued to meet until 1860. After the difficult times of the Civil War, the Church made plans to build their own facility. On the second Sunday of May, 1882, the dedication sermon was delivered in the new church. The walls were unpainted, the benches were hard and straight, and there was no organ or piano, but songs were sung from the Methodist Hymnal –a cappella. The current Sanctuary was built in 1921 and has been renovated several times over the years.
This history of tradition and commitment, yet change and renewal tells you much about Manor United Methodist Church and the people who worship here. It is a welcoming, inviting place to belong. There is the warmth of values held through the years with the awareness that Christ is always calling us to be a new creation and share the Message with all.
Our church family consists of about 215 members who support the church through their prayers, their presence, their gifts and their service. We are blessed with members who have worshipped at MUMC for decades and have experienced many new members as well as growth and change within the church community. Many of our families live in the Manor Community, some commute for work in Austin or other nearby towns and cities. Most importantly, we welcome visitors and openly accept all to Christ’s community of faith in MUMC.
